Margaret's Story

Margaret Chung Pitt Wong was born to Wong Che-Pang (王志鹏) and Lau Shiu-Yee(刘少儀) on April 20, 1938 in Zhongshan, Guangzhou Province, China. (中国队广东省中山市).   The family would eventually move to Hong Kong in 1940 and settle in Shumshuipo (深水埗), where they started a knitting factory.

Margaret was one of six children — Jack, Horatio, Margaret, Victor, Antony, and Simon. As the only daughter in the family, Margaret was well loved (and spoiled) by her parents and brothers at a tender age.

She attended Tak Ching Primary School, and the Maryknoll Convent Secondary School.  Both schools were run by nuns of catholic convents and she was baptized during her school year (date unknown).  Upon graduating from the secondary school and while waiting for admission to attend U.S. universities, Margaret taught for a short time.

In 1959, Margaret moved out to California to attend Sacramento State College before transferring to College of the Holy Names in Oakland, Ca.  She graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor Degree in Biological Science.  During those first 2 years in Oakland, she would stay with the brother of her granddad (二叔公 ).  To make ends meet while attending college, she would work part time at David Wong's grocery store and various other jobs.  She would eventually find her profession as a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Summit Hospital in Oakland, where she would spend her entire career there.

It was in the spring of 1966 that Margaret and John were introduced by family members.  They fell in love and were married on November 11, 1966.   Margaret and John initially resided in Sunnyvale, but would move to San Francisco where they would wind up living in the same home to this very day.  Together, they were blessed with three sons, Kurt, Duane and Quinn.  During these years, both Margaret and John would manage to work full-time jobs, while raising 3 boys to ensure their well-being and proper upbringing.

Margaret retired from Summit Hospital in 2013 after 46 years.  During retirement, she enjoyed traveling the world going on several cruises with John, family and friends.  Margaret also loved to spend her time exploring her artistic side, having created many watercolor paintings, metal art figurines, and quilts.

Margaret and John were happily married for over 54 years.  Margaret was further blessed with having 4 grandchildren, and was able to spend a great amount of time with all of them.

After a courageous two year bout with cancer, Margaret passed away peacefully on January 12th, 2021 in her home of 53 years.
